More information about Maryland Quakers.......
The Society of Friends built Third Haven Meeting House in Easton, Maryland between 1682 and 1684. The Meeting House has been in continual use since then. It is the white clapboard building shown below. The next four photos are of the 1684 interior that remains the same today. Notice the center wall with panels. These panel move up and down to divide the room into areas for silent reflection and worship. Pretty advanced mechanics for the time. There is a burial ground on the property with many simple Quaker headstones.
The red brick building is a modern building built right next door to the original. Both are open and used on a daily basis. You can also see a photo of the interior. The newer building includes some office space and a small library where we found the book below. We have purchased a copy of this book to include in the Hopkins library since it is basically a roster of the Quakers.
It is believed that the Hopkins family visited this meeting house to share worship with this Society of Friends group.
