How to Help

      Sign Our Petition

The Friends of Historic Johns Hopkins House, Inc, a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization is engaged in a grass roots campaign
again this year advocating for Anne Arundel County to purchase
Whites Hall, historic birthplace and childhood home of

Johns Hopkins, ca. 1780.

We are hoping that the County Executive and his team will add

this purchase to their budget for 2026-2027.

One way to help save this historic site is to sign our petition that
will be presented to Mr. Pittman as the budget process begins.
We are setting a goal to submit over 1,000 names. Use the
Petition button at the top of the page to join our cause.

                  Letters to the County Government

To help save this historic site, you can also write letters to the county government using the names and address below. Letting
the County Executive, Mr. Pittman, his staff, and County Council Members know that we are passionate about saving
Johns Hopkins House is key. One option is to write a letter(s) to the County Executive and each of his staff members listed
below. You may write your own letter or adjust one of the samples we are providing. If you choose this option, please send them to us and we will deliver them in masse. Another option is to email the County Executive and cc the staff members and County Council Members or you can email individual letters. The more letters and emails we send, the better. You can email letters or send them in the postal mail, whichever is best for you. We would really appreciate you writing to each of these people in some way.

Watch for further communications as plans are developed.

Fundraising

The Friends of Historic Johns Hopkins House, Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is now engaged in a fundraising campaign for the purchase and restoration of Whites Hall, historic birthplace and childhood home of Johns Hopkins, ca. 1780. Use the donate button on our website to support this project in any way that you can. (www.johnshopkinshouse.com)

The property is currently in the hands of a developer and was most recently listed for sale for $1.35 million. Ideally, we would like to raise this money from big and small donations. Every amount helps. We are going to work hard to make this happen as quickly as possible so that the property does not get sold to anyone else.

After the purchase of the property, we will continue fundraising for the estimated $500,000 that is needed to fully restore the house and property. Of course, that will include a lot of volunteer time too. Approximately 90% of all funds raised will go to the purchase and restoration of the property. The remaining 10% will go toward the overhead costs of this purchase and restoration campaign. We truly look forward to becoming an active community site with lots of great programming happening. We are planning great things for you and your family.

Your donation is tax deductible.

According to the law, if we are not able to make our purchase and restoration fundraising goals, the money that has been raised is distributed to other historic nonprofit groups in the area.
