It is with great sadness that we let you know the Anne Arundel County government notified us this week that they have decided NOT to purchase, Whites Hall, birthplace and boyhood home of Johns Hopkins. We feel that our campaign was a great one. We had many, many of you write letters and emails to the elected officials and their staff members and we turned in a petition with 543 signatures on it (county record). We met with many of these politicians and spoke with them about our project. They all seemed to be positive about this purchase but, in the end decided it was better off in private hands. We thank them for listening.
So, Plan B- Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is going to attempt to raise the funds to purchase and then restore the house and property. We will be embarking on this campaign within the next week. We are hoping for small donations and large ones. We also plan to apply for grants that can be used for acquisition. We need $1.3 Million to purchase the house and then probably $500,000 to restore the house. Be on the lookout for further information and begin thinking about what kind of donation you might be able to make. :)
